There is a particular confidence in reducing a palette. A room with oak, stone, plaster, and a single metal does not need to announce itself. It can let texture, light, and time do the work.

Materials become more interesting when they are allowed to age.

Natural materials ask to be chosen in the home rather than under showroom lighting. A veined slab can look too expressive in isolation, then become completely right when the afternoon sun reaches it. A timber sample can look pale until it sits beside the floor it will meet every day.

Fewer materials also make a practical room easier to maintain. The goal is not perfection. It is a collection of honest surfaces that gain character without becoming precious.
